Cruise from Laukaa to the Saraakallio Rock Paintings

Welcome to the cruise to admire the rock paintings of Saraakallio!

Departing from Laukaa Harbour, two different Saraakallio cruises combine beautiful lake scenery, historic canals, and thousands of years of history. Both routes take you to admire the over 7,000-year-old Saraakallio Rock Paintings, which can only be viewed from the water during the return cruise.

Choose between a shorter cruise to Kuusaa Canal or a longer full-day excursion to Äänekoski. Both routes travel along the Keitele Canal waterway, offering stunning lake landscapes and, on the return journey, the unique cultural heritage of Saraakallio. On board, you’ll find a fully licensed restaurant, and right after departure from Laukaa, a generous buffet lunch prepared by the ship’s chef is served. The lunch can be pre-booked for an additional €24 per person. Sweet and savoury snacks, ice cream and refreshments are also available for purchase on board.

ONE CANAL SARAAKALLIO CRUISE
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 20 May – 2 September 2026

This cruise takes you through the Kuusaa Canal lock before returning via the Saraakallio Rock Paintings, which are viewed from the water on the return journey. At Kuusaa Canal, there is an approximately 45-minute stop, giving you time to explore the area and its services or watch boats passing through the canal.

Schedule:
Outbound: Laukaa (12:40 pm) → Kuusaa Canal (1:15 pm)
Return: Kuusaa Canal (2:00 pm) → Saraakallio Rock Paintings (on the return cruise only) → Laukaa (3:00 pm)

THREE CANAL SARAAKALLIO CRUISE
Saturdays, 6 June – 22 August 2026

This longer full-day cruise takes you through the locks of Kuusaa, Kapeenkoski and Paatela all the way to Äänekoski. On the return cruise, you’ll admire the impressive Saraakallio Rock Paintings, best experienced from the water. At Suolahti Harbour in Äänekoski, there is an approximately 35-minute stop, allowing time to explore the harbour area and its services.

Please note: On Saturdays, you can combine the Äänekoski route with a bus journey, travelling one direction by boat and the other by bus.

Outbound: Laukaa (11:35 am) → Kuusaa Canal (12:25 pm) → Kapeenkoski Canal (1:10 pm) → Paatela Lock (2:00 pm) → Äänekoski, Suolahti Harbour (2:25 pm)
Return: Äänekoski, Suolahti Harbour (3:00 pm) → Paatela Lock (3:20 pm) → Kapeenkoski Canal (3:50 pm) → Kuusaa Canal (4:45 pm) → Saraakallio Rock Paintings (on the return cruise only) → Laukaa (5:30 pm)
