Boat Trip to Säynätsalo Town Hall, Designed by Alvar Aalto
The authentic steamship s/s Suomi has been carrying passengers across Lake Päijänne for more than 120 years – and Alvar Aalto himself is also known to have travelled aboard this very ship. Today, our historic steamship takes you from Jyväskylä to Säynätsalo for a visit to one of Aalto’s architectural landmarks.
Sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery of northern Lake Päijänne as you cruise towards Säynätsalo. You can also enjoy lunch in the ship’s restaurant during the journey. On arrival at Säynätsalo harbour, your guide will meet you and lead you on a short walk to Säynätsalo Town Hall, part of the Aalto Works ensemble inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During the guided tour, you will explore the Town Hall and learn more about Alvar Aalto and his distinctive architecture.
After the tour, you will have time to explore the Town Hall at your own pace or visit the café – you can also purchase coffee with a sweet pastry in advance from our online store! You will receive a local bus ticket at the beginning of the boat trip, so you can choose the return bus to Jyväskylä that best suits your schedule.
