Alvar Aalto architectural cruise

This summer we put together an exciting cruise and interesting architecture to form one powerful combination. Come join us to this magnificent trip to enjoy the beautiful Lake Päijänne nature that has inspired the famous designer Alvar Aalto, the scenery of Säynätsalo and swing by the Säynätsalo Town Hall to see one of the architectural pieces made by Alvar Aalto. In his time Alvar Aalto himself travelled with Suomi-boat to Säynätsalo so now you have a chance to follow his footsteps and cruise like Mr. Aalto.

Architect Aalto 

The most famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto combined nature and red brick in his work. Geometrical and light architectural combinations changed in the 1950s to more down-to-earth direction. Among other designs from a blend of different elements and vivid brick surface the Säynätsalo Town Hall was created in 1952.

Säynätsalon kunnantalo or the Säynätsalo Town Hall is one of the most significant and comprehensive works of architect Alvar Aalto. This architectural destination unites the beauty of the nature and the architectural concentration on the details down to all the pieces of furniture. Säynätsalo Town Hall linked together with nature taking an advantage of the terrain height difference and leaving room for the yard areas with its artificial ponds.

Säynätsalo itself is surrounded throughout by lake nature connecting the beautiful Finnish waters and nature to the historical Alvar Aalto destination. Even Alvar Aalto used to spend his days around Lake Päijänne designing and building his own boat. In his time Alvar Aalto himself travelled with Suomi-boat to Säynätsalo so now you have a chance to follow his footsteps and cruise like Mr. Aalto.

 14.00 – n.17.30 (depending on the bus connection chosen)

Our steamer boat s/s Suomi departures from Jyväskylä Harbour at 14.00. Jyväskylä harbour is located near to city center (address: Satamakatu 8). During the cruise, you can enjoy the lunch buffet with an additional cost.

Price: 38 € / per person

(All cost includes VAT. Price includes a cruise from Jyväskylä harbour to Säynätsalo, guided tour in Säynätsalo Town Hall, Bus from Säynätsalo to Jyväskylä.)
